Robert Coleman Trussell: Music

Two By Two

(Robert Coleman Trussell)
2008-06-20
Noah counted critters two by two
But God said Man you need some music too
So Noah went around to the music store
To get some rock'n'roll and a whole lot more
He got two guitars, two saxophones, two bass fiddles
And a bag of bones
He got two tambourines, a pair of blue suede shoes
Two brass trumpets and a dose of the blues
Then he took 'em all back to his big old boat
He say We're gonna rock'n'roll if this thing floats

CHORUS: Well it's alright Mama it's only flesh & blood
You been jumpin' and jivin' since the great big flood
It's alright Mama it's only blood & bone
You can hear it in the water
When it splashes on the stones

Well slaves built the pyramids stone by stone
At night they made music with a black cat bone
They sang about sweatin' underneath the sun
With a straw boss watchin' with a loaded gun
Well Pharaoh heard 'em singing' underneath the moon
As he tried to eat his dinner with a silver spoon
He called in his ministers he said Listen hear boys
I never heard nothin' like this awful noise
Well Pharaoh had the silver & he had all the gold
But he couldn't do nothin' 'bout that rock'n'roll

CHORUS: . . . You can hear it in the water & you can feel it in the stones

Well a story's just a story, the Bible tells us so
It's Samson & Delilah doing the do-se-do
It's Herod killin' babies, Moses gettin' pissed
It's Samson killin' lions with his great big fists
It's Sodom and Gomorrah partyin' all night long
It's little David with his harp makin' up songs
It's old John the Baptist losin' his head
It's Lazarus comin' back from the Land of the Dead
It's the horns bringin' down the walls of Jericho
It don't matter what you call it, it's just rock'n'roll

CHORUS: . . . You can hear it in the water when it splashes on the stones
You can hear it in the water & you can feel it in the stones
